Bag Raiders Live @ V-Lounge
Last night I attended the live debut of Bag Raiders at V-Lounge in Santa Monica put on by Collaborative Media, Modular, and Guns in the Sun. Let me start off by saying that V-Lounge has stolen my heart as a new favorite venue in the Los Angeles area. Although located in a less than ideal (or ideal, depending on your feelings toward the Hollywood/West Hollywood areas) location on the eastern end of Santa Monica, the place is just amazing for a live electronic show. The design is one of th best I’ve ever seen for it’s size, offering perfect viewpoints to the stage no matter your orientation inside. Not to mention a killer light display behind the stage and a perfectly shaped and sized dancefloor. And the sound is incredible. I will definitely be frequenting the place many times to come in the near future.
As for the show itself, the intensity grew in allignment with the acts. I arrived after the opening-opening act of Smooth Creature, during Dan Wilcox set. He did a great job of setting the mood early, lights glowing red as the crowd trickled onto the dance floor. Right away I knew this will be a show to remember as he dropped some standard but crowd-pleasing electro beats to get the place warmed up.

Soon enough Classixx took over, and got the place really moving as they do. From what I recall they dropped a lot of jams I hadn’t heard of before and I believe they left out “I’ll Get You”, but they put on an amazing performance. I made my way to the front and was able to see up-close how much fun they were having, which I believe is important when vibing with the crowd. There was definite vibing, the people were moving and beats were dropping.

Finally the time had come, and with a quick changing of the guard with palpably growing anticipation, Bag Raiders arrived with a bang. They blew me a way with their performance, using live vocals for all their original tracks while spinning. They dropped all their hits, including a very memorable “Sunlight” which set the place on fire and an encore that included everyone’s favorite “Shooting Stars”, all with blazing light behind them. I guarantee I will be seeing them again the next chance I get and you should too.

For all those that missed out, well, you blew it. Don’t make the same mistake twice. The most feel good atmosphere I’ve been around in a long time, I was left sweaty and breathless, soul permanently melted to V-Lounge’s soaked floor…
